Problem With Wireless Router

problem with wireless router

    wireless router
  • Wireless routers are actually routers with Ethernet plus wireless access points so that they have both wired and/or wireless at the same time.

  • A wireless router is a device that performs the functions of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point. It is commonly used to allow access to the Internet or a computer network without the need for a cabled connection.

  • A networking device that is a combination of an access point and a router.  These devices are usually used in private homes where client PCs can be anywhere in the house (and thus use WiFi to connect), and the network is a broadband connection provided by an ISP.

    problem
  • trouble: a source of difficulty; "one trouble after another delayed the job"; "what's the problem?"

  • a state of difficulty that needs to be resolved; "she and her husband are having problems"; "it is always a job to contact him"; "urban problems such as traffic congestion and smog"

  • a question raised for consideration or solution; "our homework consisted of ten problems to solve"

  • A matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful and needing to be dealt with and overcome

  • An inquiry starting from given conditions to investigate or demonstrate a fact, result, or law

  • A thing that is difficult to achieve or accomplish

Tunbridge Public Library got broadband a few months back and now finally got board approval and money for a wireless router which I configured today (thanks Stan!) and which goes in tomorrow.

When I started this job working with six tiny libraries, three of them had broadband and three had dial-up (networked dial-up in one case). Now all six have broadband and five, as of tomorrow, have wireless. In all but one case, they are the only wireless access point in the town. I can't take credit for all of this -- a lot of it is just times changing, broadband availability increasing and librarians and patrons working together to solve technology problems -- but I like to think I helped.

This is where I do most of my work on the iMac. Off to the right of the desk is my APC 1000 UPS system and behind the iMac are my cable modem and wireless router.

At first I thought the location of the router would be an issue but I've not had any problems with it at all and I'm able to get a good signal all the way to the other side of my home over sixty feet away and through walls. The iMac is connected to the router via GB ethernet while the wireless component is used for my iPad, Evo, and Roku box in the livingrooom.

When not in use the keyboard fits nicely beneath the iMac out of the way.
